Democratic Gubernatorial Candidate Matt Flynn Would Seek To Nullify Foxconn Contract

Matt Flynn

We continue our series of candidate interviewswith Democrats vying to face Republican Gov. Scott Walker this fall. The primary is in less than two weeks. Matt Flynn is an attorney and former chair of the Democratic Party of Wisconsin. He says if elected, he'll file suit to end the state's contract with Foxconn, the Taiwanese electronic giant.

WUWM's Marti Mikkelson spoke with Flynn while he was having coffee in downtown Milwaukee. She began by asking him why he's running for governor.

Why are you running for governor?

Flynn:  I don't want our democracy destroyed.

What are the top three issues facing Wisconsinites and how do you plan to address them?

Flynn:  1. End the Foxconn contract.

2. Wages — I'll repeal Act 10 and Right-to-Work and I'll raise the minimum wage in Wisconsin.

3. Education — I'll provide free tuition for two years for in-state students attending two-year colleges and technical schools.

How do you differentiate yourself from the other candidates?

Flynn:  I'm the only veteran of anyone running as a Democrat or Republican in the governor's race.

In what areas do you think you're vulnerable?

Flynn:  I work too hard!

Marti was a reporter with WUWM from 1999 to 2021.
