Former Officer Sentenced to 26 Months for Illegal Body Searches

Former MPD Officer Michael Vagnini must spend 26 months in prison, for conducting invasive body searches on suspects. In April, the 34-year-old pleaded no contest to four felonies and four misdemeanors.

Prosecutors say Vagnini performed illegal body-cavity searches and strip searches on dozens of people he arrested, often reaching inside men's underwear. State law bans police from probing body-cavities.

Vagnini had been suspended with pay during the investigation and trial and has now resigned.

Trials for three other officers facing related charges are scheduled for later this year. The three remain suspended with pay from the force.
