Leaders of the Menominee tribe held a news conference at the state Capitol on Tuesday. They called on Gov. Walker to give the tribe permission to develop an off-reservation casino at the site of Kenosha’s former greyhound track.
Late last week, federal officials gave their approval, but the project also needs Walker’s authorization.
The Forest County Potawatomi tribe is fighting the Menominee tribe, believing the Kenosha casino would lure customers away from the Potawatomi casino in Milwaukee.
Gov. Walker says he will base his decision in part on whether there is consensus among the state’s tribes.
