Jury Finds Advance Cast Stone Mainly Guilty in Fatal Parking Garage Accident

A Milwaukee jury Thursday found a Random Lake company mainly responsible for the death of a 15-year-old boy in 2010. Jared Kellner was killed and two others injured when a 13-ton panel fell off the parking garage at O’Donnell Park. The trial centered around the way in which the 13-ton panel was attached to the garage.

An investigation found that instead of the required four steel rods, the company Advanced Cast Stone used only two, to bolt the concrete panel to the garage.

Jurors assigned 88 percent of blame to the company. They held the construction manager 10 percent responsible and Milwaukee County two percent.

The jury also awarded $6.3 million Jared Kellner’s family. He had been walking out of the garage with members of the Wosinski family, when the concrete slab fell on them. The jurors awarded the family $11.4 million. Amy Wosinski suffered the partial amputation of her left leg. Her son Eric suffered a broken leg and head gash.
