Another Guard Member Suspended in Casket Photo Incident

Two members of the Wisconsin National Guard have been suspended, as officials look into a photo that was shared on Instagram.

The photo shows soldiers mugging for the camera, while gathered around a flag-draped casket. The National Guard says the casket was empty, and the photo was taken during training in Arkansas.

Hundreds of people posted complaints about the soldiers’ behavior to the National Guard’s Facebook page. The soldier who shared the photo on Instagram, Spc. Terry Harrison, has been suspended from honor guard duties, pending the outcome of an investigation into the incident.

On Wednesday, the National Guard said Sgt. Luis Jimenez also has been suspended, for posting comments on social media defending the photo. Jimenez said it was “good to let loose” after long practice sessions. The Associated Press reports that Jimenez was Harrison’s task leader.

The AP made attempts to reach Harrison and Jimenez for comment. Harrison did not return calls and emails; a phone number for Jimenez could not be found.
