Ex Fabula: Faking It

Kat Schleicher

Everyone fakes it from time to time. At ExFabula’s January 2012 StorySlam at the Bay View Brew Haus, attendees heard lots of examples, including the following two stories.

Marge Eiseman shares how she fakes ”being a 54 year old person who has lots of work experience.” Somehow, she managed to celebrate her 1-year anniversary at a job, even though she was only there for 8 months. To top that, some people at work think she’s a lawyer, even though her Masters is really in Jewish studies.

Tracy Lehrmann told the dramatic tale of her friend Sara who had non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma, a cancer of the red blood cells which is almost always terminal in adults. “I tried to be an authentic friend to Sara, but it was easier just to help where I could”, she explained, giving examples of all the efforts that she an others took to help Sara get treatment. Her story ends with a twist that completely shocked the audience at the Bay View Brew Haus.

Ex Fabula StorySlamswill return this fall, with a Season 6 Kickoff in September and then regular events starting in October.
