Court Orders Treatment for 12-Year-Old Stabbing Suspect

A judge decided Friday that the girl is not mentally able to stand trial. She and another 12-year-old are accused of stabbing a classmate.

The two suspects told investigators they had planned for months to kill their friend, in order to please an online fictional character. After a sleepover, the girls reportedly lured the classmate to a wooded area in Waukesha and stabbed her 19 times. She survived the wounds and continues recovering.

After declaring one of the girls mentally incompetent on Friday, the judge committed her to treatment. Two doctors who examined her also concluded she was unable to understand the proceedings against her.

Attorneys for both girls have been seeking to have their cases moved to juvenile court. Prosecutors decided to try the two, as adults.
