Member of Milwaukee's Theatre Community Reacts to Hamilton's Statement to VP-Elect Pence
A political musical became part of the nation's political debate over the weekend. On Friday night, Vice President-elect Mike Pence attended the Broadway performance of Hamilton.
The creative team behind Hamilton was aware that Pence would be in the audience, so it created a short speech for the actor who plays Aaron Burr, Brandon Victor Dixon, to deliver after the curtain call:
Vice President-elect Mike Pence has said he wasn't bothered by the comments, but President-elect Donald Trump reacted with a series of tweets, accusing the Hamilton cast of harassment, and demanding an apology.
The Theater must always be a safe and special place. The cast of Hamilton was very rude last night to a very good man, Mike Pence. Apologize!— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) November 19, 2016
WUWM’s Bonnie Petrie wondered about the response from Milwaukee's theater community.
