Thursday on Lake Effect: World War II Navy Veteran Al Exner

Thursday on Lake Effect:

Today on the show, 89-year old Navy veteran Al Exner of Waukesha.  Exner served as a surgical tech during some of World War II’s pivotal battles – including at a hospital across the English Channel from where the Normandy Invasion was going on and later treating wounded soldiers at Iwo Jima and Okinawa. Exner’s stories are among those from Wisconsin WWII veterans that are chronicled by Howie Magner in the July issue of Milwaukee Magazine.  And so we’re going to break format today and spend the whole show hearing from this remarkable participant in history.

Guests:

  • Al Exner, World War II Veteran (United States Navy) & Howie Magner, Milwaukee Magazine
