The city of Milwaukee has a lot going for it. Downtown is booming with the new Fiserv Forum attracting huge crowds. New office buildings, condos and apartments are going up. And next year the eyes of the world will be on Milwaukee as it hosts the Democratic National Convention.

But Milwaukee still is one of the most segregated cities in the country. And the disparities in the health of its citizens are significant.

One way the city can improve health care for everyone is to take advantage of UWM’s Joseph Zilber School of Public Health. It is the only accredited school of public health in the state of Wisconsin, and this year it’s celebrating its 10 year anniversary.

Joining us in the studio to talk about UWM’s Public Health school are Ron Perez, dean of the school, and Michael Laiosa, associate professor of environmental health sciences and the faculty chair of the school.

Tom Luljak hosted UWM Today on WUWM for more than two decades and is the inaugural host of Curious Campus.
