A Chat With The Dean Of UWM's College Of Health Sciences

Lauren Sigfusson

When considering a career in the medical profession many people, especially high school students, think of being a doctor or nurse. But there are many other types of health care professionals who are essential to keeping us well. At UW-Milwaukee, the College of Health Sciences has become one of the largest programs in Wisconsin where students train to work in a broad range of fields, including biomedical sciences, occupational and physical therapy, and speech pathology to name just a few.

On this edition of UWM Today, we talk to the dean of the College of Health Sciences, Timothy Behrens. He came to UWM about a year ago from Northern Arizona University where he was a professor of kinesiology. In addition to leading UWM’s health sciences programs, Behrens is continuing his own research on poor nutrition among the Navajos in Arizona, New Mexico and Utah where “food deserts” are creating serious health problems among that population.
