Ex Fabula: New Year, New Delicacies?

Art Montes
Storyteller Mark Wein

The start of a new year is a great excuse to take a step back and take a hard look at your life -  what’s going well, what could be improved, what’s missing and what’s needed. This forms the foundation for resolutions, new commitments or simple reminders to pursue the changes you know you need to make and go the places you want to go.

The quest to bring the romance back to a marriage can bring lots of unsolicited advice – even from your close friends as our first teller, Mark Wein, explained at the “Fool Proof” StorySlam in April 2014. When his men’s group found out about this issue, they came up with an infallible plan: weight loss. Mark decided to give it a try, and found a very interesting diet that involved over-exposure to addictive foods. Almost immediately, the diet changed his life in a fortuitous way.

Storyteller Peter May

Our second teller remembered a sleepless but exciting first few days in New Zealand at the start of a video shoot. Peter May, featured in the “Acquired Taste” StorySlam in March 2017, explained that after nearly a day of flying, his crew had to get to work right away at a meeting house for the indigenous Maori people, including their king.

After ritualistic introductions that involved compliments and songs by both parties, then a full day of work, the king then invited Peter’s group for dinner. They partook in the local delicacies (including the rather unpleasant sea urchin) but Peter ended up ingesting an unexpected palate-cleanser as well.
