Stories about kids, guns and how to stop the violence. Precious Lives, created by 371 Productions, is a 2-year, 100-part weekly radio series about gun violence and young people in the Milwaukee area. The series applies a public health lens to each story to help listeners understand the full scope of the problem: who are the victims and the shooters; how are the weapons obtained; and what can we change about the environment that contributes to violence in Milwaukee?

#028 Precious Lives: Minneapolis Has a Plan to Keep Young People Safe

A decade ago, Minneapolis had a gun violence problem that was destroying the lives of young people - much like Milwaukee. The city knew something had to change. So, they decided to make a citywide plan - a blueprint for youth violence prevention.

The Minneapolis Blueprint for Action to Prevent Youth Violence has made a huge difference for the city. Precious Lives' Emily Forman travels to Minneapolis to see how they’ve achieved a dramatic reduction in the number of kids killed and hurt by gun violence.

More information about Minneapolis' blueprint can be found at PreciousLivesProject.org.
