'Marketplace' Report: Short Strike Aids Both Sides

Chrysler and the United Auto Workers union announced a deal late Wednesday afternoon after a six-hour strike. A few weeks ago, GM workers settled their contract following a two-day strike. What's with these mini strikes?

Marketplace's John Dimsdale says that although the strike was short, it gave UAW the ability to say it called a strike and forced a deal with Chrysler. On the other hand, the strike was not long enough to harm the struggling auto maker.

Now the union will focus on negotiating a new contract with Ford — the weakest of the Detroit Three and most in need of union concessions.

Dimsdale talks to Alex Cohen about the Chrysler contract and who benefits from short walkouts.
