Establishing Country Roots in Brookfield

Nora Collins began taking music seriously at the age of 14. Now 19, she has been named Wisconsin’s 2013 WAMI Rising Star and 2013 Vocalist of the Year.Collins, native of Brookfield, began guitar lessons at the age of 10, but stopped shortly after.

“I guess I didn’t like practicing,” Collins says. Four years later, she picked the instrument up and taught herself how to play by writing songs.

The singer-songwriter has been singing since she was three, actively participating in church and school choirs. Her biggest influence is Mequon-native Willy Porter.

Collins traveled to Nashville to try to make it big a couple of times, but knew that home was where she needed to start.

"I decided this on my own, and I’ve also been told this, that it’s best to stay where you’re at and try to build a following first, and grow from there," she says.

She is grateful for her fans at home. Wisconsin has been very supportive of her by attending her concerts and buying her three CDs.

Nora Collins is performing at New Berlin's Zaffiro's from 8 PM-11 PM Friday September 20th.
