Business Journal of Milwaukee Celebrates 30 Years

Business Journal Facebook

It was 30 years ago that the Business Journal of Milwaukee printed its first issue.

This week’s issue looks back at the past three decades and ahead to what could be in its future pages years from now.

Publisher Mark Sabljak says Milwaukee has been "a welcoming community" for his paper - and for the businesses it writes about.

Editor Mark Kass says the more things change in business news, the more they stay the same.

"A lot of the issues that were happening then are happening today, still," he says. "Talk about the Bucks in terms of a lease at the old arena, there was healthcare issues, real estate questions, a lot of issues on the lakefront."

Some of the big headlines over the past thirty years include:

  • Harley-Davidson buyout
  • Miller Brewery merger with Coors
  • First Star Bank and US Bank merger
  • Aurora Healthcare’s creation
  • The fate of the Menomonee Valley
  • Building Miller Park

Big names that have risen since 1983 include:

In the 30th anniversary edition, the magazine questions what Milwaukee should see in the next thirty years and pushing the need for young entrepreneurs to continue to strive to make a difference.

Mark Kass is editor and Mark Sabljak is publisher of the Business Journal of Milwaukee.  The paper’s 30th anniversary edition is out today.
