Singer Jeannine Rivers has been serenading the Milwaukee area for years. Whether she’s at Caroline’s, the Pfister’s BLU Bar and Lounge or West Bend’s Café Soeurette, her powerful and expressive vocals, along with a mix of jazz standards and original compositions, make her an audience favorite.
Rivers recently released her first album, called Iridescent October. She, along with bassist Dwayne Williams and pianist James Faherty, recently stopped by the Lake Effect studio to perform a few numbers from it, including the bluesy All of Me, His Nation (a tribute to her late fiancé Dwight Turner who passed away from cancer) and the classic, Summertime.
It took two years and six months for Rivers to complete the album, on which she collaborated with a slew of Milwaukee musicians. Looking back and listening to the completed project, she does not have any regrets.
"Iridescent October - its all about change for me. It represents the changes I had to go through, during the course of dealing with the loss of my fiancé, creative differences, losing friendships and just having faith in myself and the confidence to go ahead and get it done," says Rivers "...when look at [the CD] and when I listen to it, I wouldn't change one thing."
Rivers will play Friday night at Café Soeurette in West Bend.
