The Milwaukee Fringe Festival features many art forms this year, including Erick Montes//Danceable Projects.

Though the days of summer are waning and theater companies have opened and closed late summer productions, the fall season is still a few weeks away. In the interim, Milwaukeeans can enjoy home-grown Fringe Festival, on stage at the Marcus Center this Saturday and Sunday.

Two of the festivals co-founders, Marquette theater professor John Schneider and marketing professional Eric Englebart, joined Bonnie North in the Lake Effect studio to explain that the festival is in early stages, but they hope to grow it internationally.

"Our dream is that in the years ahead people will come from all around the world and bring their work to Milwaukee so that we can see it, and so they can discover Milwaukee," says Schneider.

Milwaukee is a city with plentiful options when it comes to live theater and art but isn't always thought of as a great thater town compared to bigger cities. Fringe Festival hopes to change that by highlighting some of the more unique forms of expression.

"We're the type of city that ecourages experimental works and embraces them," says Englebart.
