Bill Would Allow Attorney to Trump Judge's Order

The Wisconsin Assembly Thursday approved a bill that would allow a lawyer to stay a judge's order by filing an appeal within 10 days. The Republican backed measure was sent to the state Senate following a 57-39 vote in favor. The new law would allow action by an attorney to stay a judge's order that blocks implementation of new legislation. The proposed change stems from earlier action by Dane county judges that struck down parts of Gov. Scott Walker's law stripping most public workers of their union rights as well as a voter photo identification law. The appeal filed by an attorney would remain in effect until it was overturned by an appellate court.
