The special prosecutor looking into campaign finance activities of Gov. Walker and some conservative organizations has reportedly ended parts of the probe.
Judge Gregory Peterson has been overseeing the John Doe investigation. He ruled Friday, according to the Wall Street Journal, that some subpoenas investigators issued to obtain information, were improper. He ordered them to return some of that property.
The report indicates that Peterson concluded after reviewing the material, that it does not show probable cause that the targets violated campaign finance laws.
The John Doe is a secret investigation, but it appears someone leaked confidential developments. The period in question, is the span from 2011 to 2012, when recall attempts were launched against Gov. Walker and numerous state senators.
An earlier John Doe, into Walker's administration while he was Milwaukee County Executive, sent several people to prison, but found no wrongdoing on the part of Walker.
