While it’s often an invisible population, homeless advocates believe that on any given day, there are as many as 1,500 men, women and children looking for a place to sleep in Milwaukee. Advocates for the homeless, along with police, began counting the city's homeless population late Wednesday and concluded early Thursday. Surveyors visited meal sites, parks and wherever else people who don’t want to be found, might hang out. The goal of the semi-annual count, is to determine what factors have made people homeless and what they need to live higher quality lives.
WUWM’s LaToya Dennis visited one of the sites and eventually came across people who admit they're living on the streets.
