Labor Day Weekend Traffic Expected to be Heavier than Usual

Holiday travelers will share the road with thousands of bikers and baseball fans Thursday through Monday.

The state Department of Transportation points out that Harley-Davidson’s 110th anniversary events will take place in Milwaukee Thursday through Sunday. The Milwaukee Brewers have home games Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday.

In the Madison area, traffic will be heavier on Saturday, because of the Wisconsin Badgers game.

The heaviest travel of the weekend is expected to take place from 12:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on both Friday and Monday.

The DOT says drivers can take steps to prevent accidents. For instance, they can look twice for motorcycles, especially when making turns or lane changes and when driving through intersections. In addition, drivers can slow down and not tailgate, including in work zones.

The agency says law enforcement will be “out in force,” as part of a national crackdown on drunken driving.

Last year, 10 people died in traffic accidents in Wisconsin over the Labor Day weekend.
