Milwaukee’s professional indoor soccer team announced a restructuring plan Friday.
It includes letting go of longtime coach Keith Tozer, and negotiating a deal to join the Professional Arena Soccer League. The Milwaukee Wave says the move is part of efforts to help the team remain in the city.
The Wave has been in Milwaukee for 30 years. Tozer was coach for 21 years. According to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, Tozer has the most wins of any coach in North American indoor soccer history.
In a statement Friday, Wave owner Sue Black said Tozer “has had a wonderful run,” and says Tozer and the Wave have “amicably parted ways.”
The statement adds that the Wave has been released from the Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL), and is now free to join a new league. Earlier this month, the Wave said it learned the MISL is restructuring, and may not have a 2014-2015 season. A number of teams in the MISL have resigned.
The Wave said Friday once the team has identified a new league and a new strategy, the Wave will search for a new coach.
In the statement, the Wave says it’s thankful to fans, sponsors and the community for their “patience and support during this time of change.”
