Madison Police Shooting: Counselors in Sun Prairie Support Tony Robinson’s Classmates and Friends

Overpass Light Brigade

The Sun Prairie High School community is mourning Tony Robinson, the 19-year-old black man shot and killed by Madison police Friday night.

Robinson graduated from the high school in 2014.

Police say Robinson was killed after he assaulted Officer Matt Kenny, who fired his weapon in defense. Robinson was unarmed, and Kenny is white, causing many to draw comparisons to fatal shootings of unarmed black men by white police officers in Milwaukee and in other states.

Vigils and protests took place in Madison over the weekend. Protesters are expected to attend a meeting of the Madison Police and Fire Commission on Monday night.

Officer Kenny is on administrative leave, pending an investigation into the shooting. Kenny, a 12-year veteran of the police department, also was involved in another fatal shooting in 2007.
