6 Dead In Milwaukee Shooting At Molson Coors

Updated at 10:07 p.m. CT

Six people were killed in a shooting on the Molson Coors Brewing Co. campus on Wednesday, Milwaukee Police Chief Alfonso Morales said. The dead include the shooter, a 51-year-old Milwaukee man. He died from a self-inflicted gunshot.

Just after 2 p.m., Milwaukee police responded to a shooting at the 4100 block of West State Street — the site most people know as the old Miller brewery. During a press briefing, Morales said the scene is secure and all employees have left the campus.

"This is a tragic day for our city. This is a tragic day for our state," Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett said.

Morales says the five victims were all employees of Molson Coors. It could be up to 48 hours until their identities are released.

Authorities offered no immediate motive for the attack. The shooter was an "active brewery employee," President and CEO Gavin Hattersley said in an email to staff.

"We’re closing our Milwaukee office for the remainder of the week and the Milwaukee Brewery will remain shut down for the time being as well to ensure our people have time to cope with today’s events," the CEO wrote in the email.

President Donald Trump addressed the shooting before speaking at the White House with reporters about steps his administration is taking to combat the coronavirus. He offered his condolences.

The deceased were found in a building in the sprawling complex that includes a mix of corporate offices and brewing facilities. More than 1,000 people work at the complex. “Miller Valley” features a 160-year-old brewery, with a packaging center that fills thousands of cans and bottles every minute and a distribution center the size of five football fields.

The last mass shooting in the Milwaukee area was in August 2012, when white supremacist Wade Michael Page fatally shot six people and wounded four others at a Sikh temple in suburban Oak Creek. Page killed himself after being wounded in a shootout with police. The worst mass shooting in the area in the past 20 years was in 2005, when seven people were killed and four wounded at a church service in Brookfield, a Milwaukee suburb. The shooter killed himself.
