Milwaukee Advocates Display Holy Family In ICE Facility In Support Of Close The Camps Movement

Joy Powers

The crisis at the U.S.-Mexico border may seem far away, but for many Milwaukeeans it hits close to home. That’s why Latinx community members have come together for an event Friday night in solidarity with the Close the Camps movement.

The event will feature a nativity scene surrounded by fencing — to draw parallels between the holy family and migrants detained in border facilities.

"If we look at the story of Jesus and the holy family, and how they were fleeing violence from King Herod: does that kind of correlate to the migration story of all these families that are coming through the border because they’re fleeing the violence and the persecution [from] their governments in Central America," says Julio Guerrero, the founder of Milwaukee Taco Truck Advocates, one of the organizers of the event.

Milwaukee Taco Truck Advocates is collaborating with Zao MKE Church and All Peoples Church for the event on Friday, July 12, in Silver City.
