The start of July means we are roughly four months away from Election Day, the first Tuesday in November. Wisconsin’s race for Governor will be among the most closely watched in the country, with Scott Walker facing his second challenge since he was elected four years ago.
Walker, who dispatched a recall challenge in defeating Tom Barrett two years ago, will likely face businesswoman and former state Commerce Secretary Mary Burke.

Following a profile of Governor Scott Walker several months ago, Milwaukee Magazine focuses on Burke’s history in its current issue. Associate editor Claire Hanan wrote the profile, and spoke with Mitch Teich about Burke's unique qualities, and what we can expect as the gubernatorial race continues.
"She's smart, she's accomplished, she is methodical, and I think she really wants to take that kind of approach to breaking down all of the different agencies and saving money where you can," says Hanan. "I think she's probably very dissatisfied with the current leadership as a whole. She's also never really failed at much, so she's got that in the confidence department."
