New Book Of Short Stories Enhances The Art Of Listening
The oral history and public radio series, StoryCorps, frequently makes the point that “listening is an act of love.” It is probably not a stretch to imagine that the fictional characters who drive writer Liam Callanan’s new book might buy into that idea.
Callanan, who is an associate professor of English at UW-Milwaukee and an occasional Lake Effect essayist is the author of two novels. But his latest title, called Listen, is a collection of stories, which inhabit many different places and eras.
"I still feel like short stories are really concerned with a moment; the moment in particular when everything changes for a character. After that moment, nothing is the same as it was for the character at the core of it," says Callanan.
Milwaukee writer Liam Callanan’s latest book is a collection of short stories called Listen. He’ll talk about it tonight at a celebratory launch event at Milwaukee’s Boswell Book Company.
