President Trump's son Eric Trump will campaign Tuesday at the office of the Milwaukee Police Association, the union that represents hundreds of Milwaukee officers. Eric Trump is expected to tout an endorsement of his father by the International Union of Police Associations.
But organized labor made it clear during the Democratic National Convention on Monday that they expect most union votes to go to presumptive Democratic nominee Joe Biden. The national AFL-CIO has already endorsed Biden. Wisconsin AFL-CIO President Stephanie Bloomingdale told the DNC Labor Council that she looks forward to broad assistance to make sure Biden wins here.
“Thank you to all of you in the labor community throughout the country for going all in to help us win Wisconsin,” Bloomingdale said.
Wisconsin U.S. Rep. Mark Pocan, a Democrat from Madison, told the webcast a Biden victory would be a boost for the PRO act — House-passed legislation protecting workers' right to organize. Pocan also says there'd be an important new member of the Cabinet.
"We need to have a secretary of labor that puts workers over bad employers that cut corners. Right now, we don't have a secretary of labor that puts workers first and foremost,” Pocan said.
Unions also charge that the Trump administration has put too many workers at risk of getting COVID-19. When endorsing Donald Trump last month, the National Association of Police Organizations said the incumbent showed “continued strong support” of law enforcement.
