While some larger cinema chains are just starting to open and show films to audiences again, yet another Milwaukee festival moved to a virtual platform this year.
The Milwaukee Short Film Festival usually takes place over two days at the Fox Bay Cinema. But as the coronavirus hit during the festival’s submission period, organizers realized they had to change course.
For its 22nd year, the Milwaukee Short Film Festival is now online for everyone to access and will show a selection of their “best of” picks from the past five years. “We contacted them, reached out to all the [past] filmmakers and they were readily happy to help us put this together and have their work screened again,” says director of the festival Ross Bigley.
There will be 21 films available for free on the festival’s website and social media pages over two days, this Friday and Saturday. Selections were made by choosing past award winners and audience favorites, including winners of their Voices Heard program that highlights filmmakers of color from Wisconsin.
The Homecoming won the Voices Heard award in 2017 and will be shown first on Saturday. Watch the trailer:
