Tomorrow is Thanksgiving, and you are not alone if you have not finished the grocery shopping required to put a holiday meal on your table.

Americans have access to more ingredients and more produced foods than at any time in our history.  And yet, more of us are taking an increased interest in where our food originated.

So it’s a busy time of year for Wisconsin’s agricultural ambassador.  The title, Alice in Dairyland, may seem like a throwback to beauty pageant days and one specific industry, but the 67th Alice, who also goes by her real name Zoey Brooks, is a full-time employee of the state’s Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection.

The Waupaca native is spending much of her time this year working on behalf of Wisconsin growers and producers. She chats with Lake Effect's Mitch Teich about the program.

"Definitely during this holiday season and Thanksgiving coming up, it's so important to keep that money right here in our local communities and in Wisconsin by shopping local," Brooks says. "Choosing something that is made here in Wisconsin...helps to support our local farmers, agro businesses, and food processors that are working all year round...and keep that business here in our state."

Audrey is a WUWM host and producer for Lake Effect.
