2015 MANDI Awards Recognize Organizations Improving Milwaukee

Music has its Grammy Awards. The movie industry has the Oscars.  Live theater has the Tony Awards. But when it comes to revitalizing Milwaukee neighborhoods, the name on the awards is "MANDI."  

The Milwaukee Awards for Neighborhood Development Innovation are a project ofLISC Milwaukee, along with US Bank. The organization's judges hand out awards in five categories, with a sixth award selected by popular vote, which opens today.

Leo Ries is executive director of LISC Milwaukee. Venice Williams is executive director of the urban farm organization Alice's Garden, and one of this year's finalists. They both joined Lake Effect's Mitch Teich in the studio to discuss the importance of recognizing the organizations that help Milwaukee grow and inspire others in the community:

Venice Williams is Executive Director of Alice's Garden and one of the finalists for this year's MANDI Awards.  Leo Ries is director of LISC Milwaukee, which presents the awards.  The ceremony itself is scheduled for April 15th at the Potawatomi Hotel and Casino.  Votingfor the People's Choice Award is open as of today.
