Although there haven’t been many live shows since the pandemic hit the United States in March, Milwaukee bands have somehow found a way to release new music. That’s been great for Matt Wild, who every month releases a nearly exhaustive list of new music from local musicians.

Wild is one of the co-founders of Milwaukee Record, which describes itself as an online source for music, culture, and gentle sarcasm. He joins Lake Effect each month to share a sample of what he’s been listening to.

Here’s the latest Milwaukee Music Roundup:

adoptahighway
"Enough is revealed in the way you wait,"

“I’m just gonna quote from [Barry Paul Clark] here about what this album is about. He says, 'Coaxing A Ghost Into The Room is the product of breaking down/working through mental obstacles and the start of repairing my cognitive behavior therapy through several months of therapy counseling in 2019 and 2020,’ ” says Wild.

Hot Science
"Cyber Sail"

“[Cyber Sail] reminds me of the like world’s most intense level on a Mega Man video game,” says Wild. “It’s a song that I think is clearly inspired by 8-bit glitch tune, kind of old retro video game music and yet it doesn’t feel retro to me, it feels very modern.”

Bobby Tylenol
"Bruce Lee ordering a meal at the airport"

“What [Bobby Tylenol’s] doing is just these weird kind of, I would call them kind of, like bite-sized soundscape sketches. They’re very strange, it’s all instrumental,” he says.

So far in 2020, Tylenol has released ten albums of these sketches.

Victor DeLorenzo
"Head"

Milwaukeeans know Victor DeLorenzo as the founding drummer of the Violent Femmes, but his newest project is a tribute to spoken word albums of the 1950s and '60s.

“It’s a very interesting record, there’s some really nice tracks on it,” Wild says.
