We look at a new development planned for downtown Milwaukee that includes a new outdoor soccer stadium and indoor concert venue. Then, learn about efforts to better educate people about Sikhism as we approach the ten year anniversary of the Sikh Temple shooting in Oak Creek. We look at the documentary “Changing the Game,” which follows three transgender high school athletes. Plus, learn about midges: the pesky swarms of bugs you might be seeing near lakes and rivers.

We look at the rising cost of rent in Milwaukee and what it means for residents. Then, the filmmakers of The Loyola Project share the cultural impact of the 1963 Ramblers team. We give a rundown of this summer’s many festivals and events. Plus, tell you about a rare four-toed salamander discovered in a new region of Wisconsin, by UW-Milwaukee students.

Tuesday on Lake Effect: Curbing Milwaukee violence, local pharmacies, 'Project Pitch It,' Woke Wednesdays 414
There’s been an increase in violence in Milwaukee since the start of the pandemic. We’ll hear what the Office of Violence Prevention is doing about it. We’ll highlight some local, independent pharmacies and explore what they mean to the community. We’ll speak with the creator of Project Pitch It, a program that aims to inspire, educate, and entertain people about Wisconsin entrepreneurism. Plus, we’ll speak with the creator of the Woke Wednesdays 414 Instagram account about how she's trying to make Wisconsin history more digestible.

We'll explore how being incarcerated at a young age can impact mental health. We’ll visit the gravesite of Milwaukee’s only known Black lynching victim and see how the effort to memorialize him has come full circle. A culinary historian shares how he’s working to restore African Americans to the center of America’s barbecue history.
